Walkies

There has been a lot of chat about PG Wodehouse here but, hitherto, Barbara Woodhouse has been given the cold shoulder. She was what we call in England a “national treasure”, you are free to call her barking mad which is appropriate as, like many Britons, she was bonkers about dogs.

Lots of us tickle a tummy here, pull an ear there, but Barbara went the full mile and had a TV show about all things doggy. Her catch-phrase was “walkies”.

I want you to come walkies with me. My idea is that as you have time to read a blog you might like to join me on a monthly, mid-week, circular walk in easy reach of London. My idea is to start in a station car park at 9.30 or 10.00 and walk for about ten miles (+/- 2) with lunch in a pub. Chatting is strongly encouraged. If this idea appeals, register your  interest by leaving a comment or sending an e mail to me: christopherbellew@hotmail.com.

  1. I’ll be there in spirit, Christopher.

Ever visited the Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy, off The Strand? Admirable little church with abundant panelling emblazoned with armorial bearings of Knights Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.

    1. My great-uncle’s memorial service was held there. A peculiarity is that one sings Long Live Our Noble Duke to the same tune as the National Anthem. This is because is has some association with the Duchy of Lancaster – as well as the College of Arms.

        1. Indeed. He was responsible for the coronation and came out of retirement to help with the arrangements for Churchill’s funeral.
