Santander Cycles and LAMDA rehearsal rooms, February 2017

There have been Santander Cycles in my street for a few years but now they have been joined by something new.

Margravine Gardens, February 2017

These are charging points for electric cars. It will be interesting to see how much use they get when they are unwrapped. Do you have to pay to plug in? I don’t know.

On the other side of the street is North Lodge at the entrance to Margravine Cemetery. There was a single-storey extension to the rear invisible from both the street and the cemetery. Now the owner has applied for permission to make a basement extension and to replace the single-storey extension with a two-storey one clad in black glass. It will be virtually invisible from the street but highly visible to walkers in the cemetery.

Residents are being urged to object to the proposal but I have not done so. The new LAMDA extension is ugly and highly visible from the street. The black box cannot be any worse and it is a matter for the Hammersmith and Fulham planning officer to rule on. The street is in a conservation area and North Lodge is a listed building both of which may scupper the project. The last date to submit comments was 7th February so there will not be long to wait for a decision.

The only point I will make is that the Lodge was extended only six years ago and, according to the estate agent’s illiterate description, seems quite large enough. Incidentally, it was sold for £1.2 million in 2011.

A unique and very rare opportunity has arisen to acquire North Lodge, a piece of history in the Barons Court Area. The property is situated a stones throw away from the Barons Court Underground Station and local amenities, has its own onsite parking, a large garden area and is gated making your living experience a private and safe one. The house itself comprises of four bedrooms, two shower rooms, two bathrooms, a large spacious open planned kitchen / dining area, pantry and a spacious reception room. The reception, kitchen and dining area all flow together, perfect for entertaining guests and everyday living. There are many other features too, including a built in home sound system which runs through the property, the main bedroom has an en suite bathroom and private dressing area, and more. There nothing else like this in W14, so to acquire something very unique, call us today. Viewings are exclusively through Shaws.

  1. On my recent trip to London, I had the pleasure to experience a Tesla Car. The company had a promotion just outside Sloane Square tube station.

Interestingly, Tesla will not sell through dealers though through their own car showrooms.

The car retails at £80,000 so take up may be slow compared to the more competitively-priced electric cars. Like any innovation, take up will initially be slow though pricing is likely to become more attractive. So expect to see some use of those charging stations around London.
