Paul Nash

If you’re an old hand here you won’t be surprised that I enjoyed the Paul Nash show at Tate Britain. Let me fess up, hitherto I knew nothing about him.

It is a big exhibition but immensely rewarding. I went with two Australian sisters – two Sheilas  you might say. We all had opinions which we articulated at high decibels. It engaged us and then a light lunch engaged us further. You will forgive me, I hope, if I just have a little lie down.

  1. Very sad how he painted such beautiful pictures of trees, then you walked into the rooms of war paintings and saw them all destroyed by chemical weapons. A wonderful exhibition.

  2. Wonderful, wonderful artist. Do you know the Battle of Britain panting? White skytrails against blue skies of Kent. In collection of Imperial War Museum, and recently exhibited in the excellent Kenneth Clark exhibition.

  3. There was a National Gallery print of it published during the war. I have one of them in this room which I look at every time I sit down or stand up from this computer. At the bottom of the picture ( war being fought above) there is a version of what I imagine to be Cuckmere Haven in Sussex. A great artist ( in descent from Samuel Palmer et al) and a great picture.
